Wärtsilä Gas Solutions offers innovative and energy efficient systems and solutions related to a number of oil & gas segments. The scope includes marine LNG and LPG cargo systems, fuel gas systems for marine vessels, onshore gas terminals, biogas systems, flare gas ignition, oil separation and tank control systems. The business unit has end-to-end responsibility from sales to commissioning of complete systems.

This leading market position is a result of our innovative and energy efficient solutions, together with the broadest portfolio of reliquefaction configurations. Our field proven cargo handling system for fully refrigerated gas carriers has evolved through decades, and is designed to ensure safe, dependable, efficient, operator and environmentally friendly operations. Our aim is to reduce your operating costs, contribute to an improved vessel EEDI and reduction of overall emitted GHG to the atmosphere.

The system is available to the full range of vessel sizes – from the very large (VLGCs), to large (LGCs) and medium (MGCs). It is prepared for integration with Wärtsilä’s gas fuel supply system, which further reduces overall GHG emissions from the vessel significantly.

Fully Pressurized Gas Carriers

Wärtsilä is the leading supplier of complete cargo handling systems for gas tankers. Most of these vessels are fully pressurized with cargo tank volumes typically in the range of 1,000 cbm to 13,000 cbm, and Wärtsilä offers state-of-the-art cargo handling solutions for this segment – designed to reduce operating costs, improve vessel EEDI and reduce overall GHG emissions.

Our field proven system is based on experience from a large number of systems delivered and ships in operation. It utilizes the best aspects of both fully pressurized and semi-refrigerated designs, including possible reduced cargo tank design pressure and the use of cargo chiller units.

The system is capable of handling LPGs, propylene, ammonia, DME, butadiene, VCM and certain chemical cargoes. Our delivery includes system engineering, material supply, cargo tank design / supply, supervision, and commissioning assistance.

Systems for Ethylene/Ethane Carriers

The ethylene carrier segment has grown during the last years, from small size vessels to handy size, and now also includes a large-scale carrier purpose built for ethane trading.

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has become the leading supplier of complete cargo handling systems for vessels in this segment, covering the whole range of sizes requested by the market today. These vessels are known for their flexibility and can trade multiple types of cargo, from gas to chemicals. Deliveries also include carriers with LNG capacity and dual-fuel propulsion.

An increasing supply of ethane has created a new segment of shipping, namely the large scale trading of ethane as feedstock to the petrochemical industry. Wärtsilä Gas Solutions supplies complete cargo handling systems to these very large ethane carriers.

The LPG Fuel Supply System (LFSS) is an innovative and reliable system that enables the use of LPG as fuel and therefore increases operational efficiency and support environmental sustainability to the market.
